Mangrove Monitoring, Antigua

Stanford Development Group worked with The Reef Ball Foundation, Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and EScaribbean team members to create a large mangrove ecosystem on Maiden Island, Antigua

Challenge: Monitoring of a large (7000) mangrove restoration project.

Solution: Red Mangroves were imported from Florida and strategically planted around Maiden Island in 2005 to enhance the marine ecosystem and complement the Reef Ball coral reef.  A team was sent to survey the area in 2010, 5 years after mitigation.

Result: The mangrove surveyed showed a great survival rate and excellent growth rate.
